"Chris Vazquez is a young and innovative guitarist bringing new life to the principles and ideals of Jazz. Born in the Hamilton area of Baltimore City, Maryland, Chris began studying music on the violin at the age of seven. Being a full-time musician with the United States Navy Band, Chris’s Father pushed a disciplined practice routine at a very young age. By the time Chris was eleven, he had found the guitar, and never looked back.
Chris attended the prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts as a classical guitar student, and in these years, he developed friendships, and skills that have followed him all his life. In his junior year of high school, Chris began to study with well-known Baltimore fusion phenomenon Carl Filipiak. These lessons and this new passion for exploring the lines between jazz and rock took Chris to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Studying alongside the likes of Bruce Bartlett, Mick Goodrick, Joe Lovano, Dave Samuels, and Kenwood Dennard has developed Chris into a versatile, adventurous guitarist, on the verge of finding something truly original.
Chris attended the Berklee College of Music on a full tuition scholarship, being a recipient of both the prestigious William Levitt Memorial Scholarship and the Alex Frank Scholarship. He graduated in May of 2007 with a B.M. in Music Performance. Chris Vazquez has performed alongside Dante Winslow, Joe Lovano, Tim Green, Lee Pearson, Antonio Heart, Marc Gross, Kenwood Dennard, Dave Samuels, Carl Filipiak, Gary Grainger, Scott Ambush, and Ron Baker among others. He has been a part of performances in concert halls across the country including The Hippodrome Theater in Maryland, The Recher Theater in Maryland, The Berklee College of Music in Boston, The Middle East in Boston, Listner Auditorium in Washington D.C., Rice University in Texas, and Royce Hall in Los Angeles. On January 13th, 2007, Chris released his second solo album, and first of all original material, with a performance at An Die Musik Live in Baltimore, Maryland. The album, entitled “Plurality,” will have Chris playing clubs and concert halls all over the east coast.
In January of 2008 Chris relocated to Los Angeles, California. He is currently a full time teacher and performer. He lives with his wife Hilary, and their dog Michael Jackson."
