Orpheus was a jazz/fusion group that I was proud to be a part of my senior year of high school. Formed in the fall of 2002 by my Father, Juan Vazquez, Orpheus became one of the most successful and remembered groups to emerge from the Baltimore School for the Arts. In spring of 2003 Orpheus traveled to Boston to perform at the Berklee High School Jazz Band Festival. Though, due to some technical difficulties, Orpheus was placed on none competing status, they took home higher scores than both competing and non-competing bands. Later that Spring Orpheus took their arranged tribute to Bird and Diz, which had raised eyebrows at Berklee, into the recording studio. Coupled with some other fusion staples, Orpheus recorded a full-length album, which sold out on the day of its release, and received rave reviews in a number of notable music magazines.
